What your staff see on the restaurant order screen

A restaurant order screen is the page your team keeps open to see incoming orders. In QckOrder it is the orders board in the dashboard, with four columns: New, Accepted, Preparing and Ready. You can also switch to a table view, and the dashboard remembers your choice.

Each ticket shows the table or the code's label, the items with their quantities, the guest's note and the total. Every order also keeps its history, with the time of each status change, which you see when you open the order.

How a new order announces itself

While the board is open, new orders appear on their own within about 15 seconds. You do not refresh the page. These QR order notifications reach your team in three ways:

  • A sound plays for each new order
  • A counter shows the number of new orders in the browser tab title
  • The same counter shows next to Orders in the menu, on every dashboard page

Tap or drag, with undo

Each ticket has one button for the next step: accept, start preparing, mark ready, complete. You can also drag it to any other column with a mouse, a long press on a touch screen or the keyboard. On small screens a Move to menu does the same. If someone makes a mistake, they can undo the step.

When the guest has paid the venue, staff mark the order as paid, by cash or card, from any ticket in any column. QckOrder does not take payment online.

Pause ordering and mark items sold out

A switch on the board pauses ordering for a location. While it is off, guests still see the menu, with a banner saying that ordering is paused and no order button. Switch it back on to resume.

When the kitchen runs out of something, mark that item as sold out from the menu items list in one tap. Guests see it greyed out and cannot add it to the cart.

What the guest sees

After ordering, the guest gets a status page for that order. It shows each step your team takes, with its time, updates by itself and stops checking once the order is completed or cancelled.

Pair it with a code for each table and every ticket also shows where to deliver.

Which devices work

Any tablet, phone or computer with a web browser works. There is no app to install. The dashboard has a light and a dark theme, and can follow the device setting. Browsers do not allow sound until someone interacts with the page, so staff tap once to switch the sound on, and QckOrder remembers the choice in that browser.

What it does not do

This is an order board, not a full kitchen system. Know the limits before you rely on it.

  • It is not a kitchen display product: there are no stations and no ticket printing
  • There is no push message when the browser is closed, so keep the board open while you serve
  • It needs an internet connection to receive orders

Which plan for the order screen

Growth

For one venue with a bigger team or guests from abroad.

The board works the same on every plan. Growth gives you more team accounts, which helps when a manager, a bar and a kitchen each want their own login.

Order screen: questions

How quickly does a new order show up?

Within about 15 seconds while the dashboard is open in a browser. The page checks for new orders by itself, so nobody refreshes it. A sound plays for each new order, and the count of new orders updates in the tab title and in the menu.

Which devices can show the order screen?

Any tablet, phone or computer with a web browser. Nothing is installed. Browsers only allow sound after a first touch, so staff tap once to switch the sound on, and QckOrder remembers the choice in that browser on that device.

Can staff undo a step by mistake?

Yes. Each ticket moves with one tap, to accepted, preparing, ready and completed, or can be dragged to any column, and a step can be undone. Staff also mark the order as paid, by cash or card, from any ticket once the guest has paid the venue.

What if the kitchen runs out of a dish?

Mark the item as sold out from the menu items list in one tap. Guests then see it greyed out and cannot add it to the cart. If the whole location needs a break, pause ordering instead, and guests still see the menu with a banner.

Do I get an alert if the browser is closed?

No. There is no push message when the browser is closed, and the board needs a connection to receive orders. Keep the dashboard open on a device by the pass during service, with the sound switched on, so a new order is never missed.

Is this a kitchen display system?

No. It is an order board in the browser, with four columns and a table view. It has no stations and no ticket printing. If you need orders split across kitchen stations or sent to a printer, it is not the right tool.
