QR code ordering for pubs: rounds without the bar queue

Guests scan the code on their table, pick the next round and send it to the bar. Your staff hear the new order on the orders board, pull the pints and mark it paid when the guest pays by cash or card.

What your team sees in the orders list

Place an order on the phone. This panel then shows it as your team sees it in the orders list.

This demo shows both sides at once. In QckOrder, new orders appear on your team's list by themselves within about 15 seconds, and guests see status changes on their order page without doing anything.

Where a busy pub slows down

  • Everyone queues at the bar for each round

Guests order the next round from their phone while they stay in their seat. Fewer people wait at the bar, and the bar team works through the orders list in the order it arrives.

  • Where do we bring this order?

Each table or area has its own code with a label such as "Beer garden 3" or "Snug". The label shows on every order from that code, so staff know where to walk.

  • A keg runs out mid-evening

Mark the beer as sold out in the dashboard. Guests still see it on the menu but cannot order it, so nobody asks for a pint you can no longer pour.

  • Last orders are called and the phones keep ordering

Pause ordering for the pub in the dashboard when you call last orders. Guests can still read the menu, but they cannot send new orders until you turn ordering back on.

How QR ordering works in a pub

  1. Guests scan the code on their table

The card on the table, or the sign in the beer garden, opens your menu in the phone browser. No app and no account.

  2. They order the round from their seat

Guests add drinks and food, leave a note if they like, and send the order. It arrives labelled with the table or area they scanned.

  3. Staff hear it on the orders board

A new order appears on the orders board with a sound. Staff accept it, move it to preparing and ready, and mark it paid after the guest pays them by cash or card.

Where the codes go in a pub

Give every place guests sit its own code, so each order tells your staff where to go.

  • Tables, snug and booths

One labelled code per table or seating area. Print each one and put it where guests put their drinks.

  • Beer garden

Label the garden tables "Beer garden 1", "Beer garden 2" and so on, so a round ordered outside reaches the right bench.

  • The bar

The "To go / counter" code has no label. Orders from it are marked to go, which suits guests standing at the bar.

Would it cover its cost at your venue?

Enter your own numbers to see how many QR orders it takes to cover a plan and the 1% on completed orders, based on the staff time you spend taking orders.

The starting values are examples, not statistics, and they change with the venue type picked above. Replace them with yours. Enter the orders of one venue; Pro covers up to three, so compare it with their orders added together.

If guests placed those orders by QR instead of staff taking them, that is about 39 hours a month, worth $663 at your rate, against $329.80 for Growth: the plan price plus 1% of the value of those completed orders.

How this is calculated
  • QR orders per month = orders per day × days open × QR share
  • Staff hours = QR orders per month × minutes per order ÷ 60
  • Value of time = staff hours × staff cost per hour
  • QckOrder cost = plan price + QR orders per month × average order value × 1%
  • Break-even orders = plan price ÷ (minutes per order ÷ 60 × staff cost − average order value × 1%)

Which plan fits a pub

Growth

For one venue with a bigger team or guests from abroad.

Growth fits a pub that welcomes visitors who read other languages, because the menu can run in all five. A single pub with one language can start on Starter.

or $59 billed monthly

+ 1% of the value of completed orders placed through QckOrder

Only completed orders count; cancelled orders do not. The 1% is calculated per calendar month and invoiced monthly. QckOrder does not collect guest payments: guests pay your venue.

Pub QR ordering: questions

Can guests open a tab or split the bill?

No. There are no tabs and no split bills. Each order is separate. Guests pay your staff by cash or card, and staff mark the order as paid in the dashboard. A group that wants to split the bill does it with your staff.

Is there online payment for rounds?

No. QckOrder does not take payments. Guests pay the pub by cash or card, the way they do today, and your team records it in the dashboard.

What happens when a keg runs out?

Mark the item as sold out in the dashboard. It stays on the menu so guests can see it, but they cannot add it to an order. QckOrder does not track kegs or stock, so you decide when to mark it.

Can I stop orders at last orders?

Yes. Pause ordering in the dashboard and guests can still read the menu but cannot send a new order. Turn ordering back on whenever you want to take orders again.

How does my team find out about a new order?

While the dashboard is open, new orders appear on their own within about 15 seconds, with a sound and a counter. Switch the sound on once in each browser. Guests see status changes on their order page without reloading it.

How many QR codes do I need?

Each QR code you create is unique and can carry a label such as "12" or "Terrace 4". The label shows on every order from that code. The location's own code, "To go / counter", has no label and marks orders as to go. Download each code as a PNG, or print one sheet with all of them.
